Oil demand expected to increase in coming year

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has moved its oil-demand forecast up another notch, reflecting a gradually strengthening outlook for the world economy.

But the Paris-based energy adviser to 28 industrialised nations warned that oil markets remained weak, with prices “frequently knocked off their perch by negative economic developments”.

Predicting that crude would average US$75 per barrel next year, up just five per cent from yesterday’s price of about $71, the IAE said near-term oil demand was “in the doldrums”.

“There is considerable uncertainty as to the world’s short-term economic outlook,” it added.

Nonetheless, the agency raised its global oil demand forecast for the coming year by 150,000 barrels per day (bpd), its third upwards revision in as many months. It now expects demand to increase by 1.42 million bpd next year to 86.05 million bpd, based on rosier economic projections from the International Monetary Fund and “stronger preliminary data” on economic recovery in Asia and the Americas.

“On the assumption that we are not in a double-dip situation economically speaking, we would still expect a pick-up in demand next year,” said David Fyfe, the head of the IEA’s oil industry and markets division.

But the agency’s latest monthly report also drew attention to sliding Opec compliance with the record 4.2 million bpd of output cuts the group pledged last year.

Last month, Opec members delivered just 62 per cent of the promised cuts, the IEA estimated, down from 66 per cent in August and a spring peak of about 80 per cent

According to IEA data, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait had the highest compliance rates last month, delivering 99, 98 and 96 per cent, respectively, of their target reductions.

Angola, which this year holds the rotating Opec presidency, has not cut output, while Iran has made only five per cent of its allotted reduction.

Pointing to Opec’s uncharacteristic failure to call formally for better compliance after its meeting last month, the IEA implied that the past five months’ “steady climb” in Opec output could continue.

In a commentary recently posted on its website, Opec said it was concerned that its efforts to stabilise the market had been undermined by oil exporters from outside the group.

Opec said that at its next meeting, in December, it would be looking for “meaningful, practical support” from other producers that had recently cut into its market share by ramping up output.

Morning round-up: Sorouh rethinks Reem Island project

Sorouh Real Estate is looking at rescheduling its Shams project on Reem Island in Abu Dhabi and is cutting prices at some of its developments because of slow sales, The National's Bradley Hope reports. The efforts to streamline the company come as it announced second-quarter earnings of Dh151 million (US$41.1m), a 75.5 per cent drop compared with the same period last year.

Thirty-five per cent is a manageable recovery rate when it comes to mortgage defaults and 50 per cent should be considered an excellent recovery rate, according to Chris Green, Managing Director at Independent Finance, a specialist financial services company. "The other half will probably result in repossessions and auctions and the lenders will recover more of their losses over a period of time," he told Emirates Business 24/7.

And Arabian Business reports that Dubai rents continued to plunge in July, though a few areas like the Arabian Ranches saw "marginal rent growth" as people moved into bigger propertie

What to See in Dubai - Jumeirah Mosque

The Jumeirah Mosque is a dominant landmark of Dubai city. Built in the medieval Fatimid tradition, this stone structure is a tribute to modern Islamic architecture. While strolling through the Mosque at sunset, you will be washed in shadows by this elegant formation.
The Jumeirah Mosque is built in the medieval Fatimid tradition combined with modern building materials. Considered to be one of the most attractive mosques in Dubai, the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding organizes visits to the Jumeirah Mosque for non-Muslims, aimed at promoting cultural understanding and first-hand experience as an insight to the Islamic religion.

Visiting Time of Jumeirah Mosque:-

Jumeirah Mosque Tours is conduct on every Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 10am, children must be 5yrs+ in the morning for the tourists and residents, they gather outside the ornate Jumeirah Mosque for a conducted tour of the Mosque and a better understanding of Islam. Fee is 10Dhs per person. Organized by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, a non-profit organization, the purpose of the tour and the Centre itself, is to bring down the barriers between different cultural groups residing in the UAE.

Rules of Jumeirah Mosque:-

No prior booking is needed. You will have to assemble at the rear of the mosque (Jumeirah Mosque) at 10.00am on Thursday (every week). Ladies need to be covered - long skirts/trousers, long sleeves, hat/scarf for the head. Gentlemen need to wear trousers - Tshirt or shirt and not a vest. You need to take off your shoes before entering the mosque. Information about Islam is put up at the rear of the mosque. From mid-september onwards, the tour is conducted twice a week on Sunday and Thursday. The tour lasts approx. for an hour and a half and the good news is photography is allowed!
Holy Jumeirah Mosque:-

The Arabic word for mosque is `masjid', i.e. place of prostration. The holy day of the Islamic week is Friday, `yaum al jum'a', on which day all adult Muslim men are commanded to go to the Jumeirah Mosque for prayer (women can perform their prayers at home). The Jumeirah Mosque where Muslims gather especially for the Friday prayer is the `masjid jum'a', the Grand Mosque.
Inside Architecture of Jumeirah Mosque:

Qibla wall of Jumeirah Mosque, the wall, which faces Mecca, as this is the direction (Qibla), which a Muslim has to face while he is praying.
Mihrab, prayer niche in the center of the Qibla wall indicating the exact praying direction. It is also the `holiest' place in the Jumeirah Mosque.

Minbar in Jumeirah Mosque , a platform to the right of the Mihrab from where the `imam', the one who leads the prayer, delivers the `khutba', the Friday sermon, which can deal with religious, social and political subjects.

Lord in Jumeirah Mosque:-

In the Jumeirah Mosque Islam is forbid to create any pictures of living beings except plants, which could be worshipped. Accordingly, it is very rare to find pictures in Mosques at all. Instead, the interior is usually decorated with rich ornamental patterns and Arabic calligraphy. Before entering the Jumeirah Mosque for Prayer, the ritual cleansing (wudu') has to be performed. It starts with washing the right and left hand (3x), then the mouth (3x), the nose (3x), the face (3x), the right and left arm (3x), the head, the ears, and finally the right and left foot (3x).

Brief History of Jumeirah:-

Before a long time Arabs were live in the Jumeirah areas where fishermen, pearl divers and traders lived. But after1960 Jumeirah was the principal area for western expatriate residences of rich persons, but the huge expansion of the emirate since year 1995 has seen a growth in housing developments across Dubai.
Jumeirah is generally agreed to be one of the most exclusive parts of Dubai and this has led to the use of the Jumeirah name as a brand which signifies exclusivity e.g. the "Jumeirah Beach Hotel" and the "Jumeirah Beach Club etc. The ruling family of Dubai has called their up market hotel chain "Jumeirah" was formerly known as "Jumeirah International".

DUBAI METRO List of stations

Dubai Metro are composed of at-grade (G), elevated Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 (T1, T2 and T3, respectively), underground stations (U) and underground transfer station types (UT). Type 1 is the regular at-grade concourse station, Type 2 will be a regular elevated concourse station, and Type 3 will be an elevated special track station with an extra track to hold a non operational train. Underground transfer stations will be both accommodating the Red and Green lines for easy transfers.

Besides these differences, there will also be four themes to be used in the interiors of all stations: earth, water, fire and air. Earth stations will have a tan-brown colour effects; water will have blue-white colour effects; fire will get orange-red colour effects; and the air will have green colour effects

DUBAI METRO PROPOSED

Proposed
Purple Line: 49 kilometres (30 mi) Dubai International Airport to Al Maktoum International Airport, along Al Khail Road.[13] Construction commenced in March 2009 and be operational by 2012. It will have about eight stations on the route, three with check in facilities. However The Dubai Airports claimed that this was unfeasible as it did not pass through many localities. They however suggested opting for a "central terminal" similar to ones in the US where trains leave from inside the airport to the other airport with trains also leaving to the city. The RTA have taken this into consideration.
Blue Line: 47 kilometres (29 mi) Dubai International Airport to Al Maktoum International Airport, along Emirates Road.[13]. This was originally proposed for construction starting along with the Purple Line and completion in 2012. Due to the recession it was taken under reconsideration and the RTA have fixed a deadline of 2014 for completion of this line.
Yellow Line: Announced in April 2008[14]
The Dubai Metro will be operated by Serco under contract to the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority.[15] Dubai Municipality Public Transport Department expects the metro to carry 1.2 million passengers on an average day, 27,000 passengers per hour for each line, and 355 million passengers per year once both lines are fully operational. It is planned to transport 12% of total trips in Dubai. There are plans to built a total of 318 km of Metro lines by 2020, the purple line is expected to be operational in 2012.[14] Apart from this the 268 km Light rails are also being planned to built, which will serves as a feeders to Dubai Metro. The Al Sufouh Tram is one of the light rail plans. [14]

One issue for the new system will be how to reliably and comfortably get riders to their final destination if it is not at a metro station. The RTA has changed and added " feeder bus routes" which act like shuttles to and from major locations in and around the station area. There are bus and taxi lay byes constructed as well as drop off zones at each station for ease of passenger access

DUBAI METRO LINE

When completed, Dubai Metro will have 70 kilometres (43 mi) of lines, and 47 stations (including nine underground stations).[11] Two lines are under construction, and three more are planned. The Roads and Transport Authority's masterplan includes 320 km of metro lines and 270 km of tram lines up to 2020 to cater to the expected 3.3 million population of the city. There are plans for 268km of light rail tracks to act as a feeder system for the Metro. The fate of this entire network – which would reportedly be divided into Yellow, Orange, Magenta and Black lines – is now dependent on an economic recovery and private investment.[12]

DUBAI METRO COUNSTRUCTION

Planning of the Dubai Metro began under the directive of Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who expected other projects to attract 15 million visitors to Dubai by 2010. The combination of a rapidly-growing population (expected to reach 3 million by 2017) and severe traffic congestion necessitated the building of an urban rail system to provide additional public transportation capacity, relieve motor traffic, and provide infrastructure for additional development.

In May 2005 a AED 12.45 billion/US$ 3.4 billion design and build contract was awarded to the Dubai Rail Link (DURL) consortium made up of Japanese companies including Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Corporation, Obayashi Corporation, Kajima Corporation and Turkish firm Yapi Merkezi.[6] The first phase (worth AED 15.5 billion/US$ 4.2 billion) covers 35 kilometres (22 mi) of the proposed network, including the Red Line between Al Rashidiya and the Jebel Ali Free Zone set for completion by September 2009 [7]and the Green Line from Al Qusais 2 to Al Jaddaf 1. This is to be completed by June 2010.[8] A second phase contract was subsequently signed in July 2006 and includes extensions to the initial routes. The Red Line will partially open on 9 September 2009 though according to an RTA official some of the stations will not open due to delays of the project. The construction cost of the Dubai Metro project has shot up by about 80 per cent from the original AED 15.5 billion/US$ 4.2 billion to AED 28 billion/US$ 7.6 billion. The authorities said the cost of the project did not overshoot. They attributed the increase in expenditure to the major changes in the scope and design of the project. The authorities also expects to generate AED 18 billion/US$ 4.9 billion in income over the next 10 years. But they speculate that the Metro would not be a profit-making enterprise since the fares would be subsidised.

Work officially commenced on the construction of the metro on March 21, 2006.[9] Still in February 2009, a top RTA Rail Agency official said "The $4.2 billion Dubai Metro project would be completed on schedule despite global crisis,"[10] however, two weeks before the planned opening the RTA had to admit that only 10 out of 29 metro station of the red line will be ready to open in time and the project plan slipped embarrassingly

Dubai Metro

The Dubai Metro (in Arabic: مترو دبي) is a driverless, fully automated metro network in the United Arab Emirates city of Dubai. The Red Line is partly operational, the Green Line is still under construction, and further lines are planned. These first two lines run underground in the city centre and on elevated viaducts elsewhere.[2] All trains and stations are air conditioned with platform edge doors to make this possible.

The Dubai Metro is currently operated by a joint organisation of the Roads and Transport Authority and the Serco Group.

The first section of the Red Line, covering 10 stations, was ceremonially inaugurated at 9:09:09 PM on September 9, 2009, by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai,[3] with the line opening to the public at 6 AM on September 10.[4] The Dubai Metro is the first urban train network in the Arabian Peninsula.[5]

Once the 20 km Green line opens in June 2010, the Dubai Metro will overtake the title of longest automated metro network from the Vancouver Skytrain, surpassing it by 3 km

Synthetic rubies

Synthetic rubies are primarily of three types- doublets, Verneuil or flame fusion and flux grown.Doublets:This type of synthetic rubies are not much in vogue nowadays. However they make great gifts. Doublets are usually stones of imitation backing with a natural corundum crown, generally made out of green or white corundum. When viewed carefully the joint made with glue can be noticed.Verneiul or flame fusion:The name is attributed to the process of production. They are easily distinguishable from natural rubies. These synthetic rubies are typically characterized by certain curved color banding known as striae. You can also find inclusions in the form of gas bubbles in them. Flux grown:This is the synthetic variety that you can not easily distinguish from a real one. Molten flux is crystallized under specified conditions of temperature and pressure to produce these versions of synthetic rubies. The stones might develop fractures when the pressure is released. Different processes of flux-grown rubies produce different types of inclusions. Often inclusions resemble that of natural rubies. Do you want to see the smiling face of your beloved? Then present her a gorgeous ruby and eternalize your love. The types of ruby described above will guide you through your purchase

Afghanistan rubies

Little is known about ruby mining in Afghanistan. However we find its reference in the writings of travelers as early as 951 A.D. Ibn Batuta, Al Biruni and Marco Polo discussed about ruby mining in Afghanistan in their travelogues. Balas ruby mines of Badakshan and Jagdalek appear to be authentic sources of rubies in Afghanistan. Not much is known about the gemological properties of Badakshan rubies. However the physical and chemical properties of Jagdalek rubies account for ruby crystals in faint colors to deep red. Often they are slightly purplish and strongly fluorescent. Occasionally violet rubies have been mined in these desolate mining regions

Madagascar rubies

Two regions in Madagascar; Andilamena and Vatomandry are recent additions in the world ruby mining map. Here ruby occurs in a large number of igneous rocks. Apply a little bit heat treatment and wow! They are almost equal to their Burmese cousins in beauty and vitality. They are special from the aspects of gemological and mineralogical properties too. The deposit discovered in the Andilamena region is quite substantial and has been much into production of rubies in recent years. The rubies mined in the Vatomandry region do not require heat treatment. The rubies mined here are found in attractive crystal forms in shades of orange, red and pink

Vietnam rubies

Vietnam rubies
Vietnamese rubies have a standard as high as Burmese rubies. Yen Bai and Nghe are two of the prime mines of Vietnam. They have an unpredictable supply

Tanzania Rubies
In Tanzania, ruby deposits are found in regions near Songea. The color of these rubies resembles the garnet so closely that even jewelers are often baffled by their closeness. It has been noticed that the intensity of color diminishes with size. Therefore, the smaller the Tanzanian rubies are, the more they command price.

Sri-Lankan rubies

If you want a match for those gorgeous Burmese rubies you can some times find it in the Sri-Lankan rubies. These rubies with pink tints have a unique beauty of their own

Thai rubies

Next in order of quality, Thai rubies come second. Thai rubies come with rather darker undertones caused by the presence of iron along with chromium. Thus you find the Thai rubies with brownish to burgundy hues. Also known as Siam rubies, these of course are no match for their Burmese cousins. Most of them are heat-treated. Chantaburi and Trat provinces lying in the south-east of Bangkok are famous for ruby mining.

Burmese rubies

Burma has been the source of the world's most superior quality rubies. It is the fierce red displayed under any kind of light that makes these Burmese rubies one of the most coveted jewels in the world. The unique color in Burmese rubies is described as 'pigeon's blood'. The chromium impurities are accountable for this flaming red in Burmese rubies. The regions around Mogok in northern Burma and Mong-Hsu to the east of Mandalay are famous for ruby mining. Kinds of blemishes are the essential attributes of any natural stone. Burmese rubies contain the least of them. Sometimes they do come with inclusions in blue or pink shades

Ruby Classification

Going to buy rubies? Read on. The article below teaches you about the classifications of this outstanding jewel and will help you make an informed decision about its purchase
Are you in search of a unique gift to impress your Valentine? Or are you a person into many years of marriage who wants to add some spice to his love life? Are you looking for some unusual way for expressing love to the special person in your life? Whatever may be the case, say, "I love you" with a ruby and see the sparks fly instantly. This is a gem, which has often been equated with human passion of the highest level. What could be more expressive than letting a part of your thought be known through this remarkable gem? So if you want to share the warmth of your heart with the person you love or you wish to express your passion, make a ruby the conduit of your emotions. Since antiquity, this red member of the corundum family has been adored by Royals, as well as commoners for its blood red hues and flaming radiance. The original grade one rubies, which are rare to the point of extinction, often out price diamond of similar size. If you want to learn about the types of rubies, you have to first understand the chemical composition of this magnificent stone. Rubies originate from the ore of Aluminum oxide or corundum. The hardness of ruby is measured 9 on Mohs scale and its specific gravity is 3.96 - 4.01. Its glow is due to its refractive index, which is 1.759 - 1.767 to 1.770 - 1.779. These qualities make the rubies especially suitable for jewellery making. We borrow the name of ruby whenever we try to describe anything red. But you can find many variations in shades of red in this July birthstone. These variations are the result of the presence of inclusions in the stone. While the chromic oxide is responsible for the red hues, ferric oxide lends it yellowish tints. Intense reds in certain rubies are the function of titanium. You can even find rubies with pink, purple, orange and brown shades as a result of the presence of chromium and iron in varied degrees. Apart from the color, it is the places of origin that accounts for the broader classification of rubies. If you are a gemstone enthusiast, you might know about the value of Burma rubies. Even if you are not, it is likely you might have heard about them. These are the rubies with the greatest fame and in optimum demand. Its fame stretches long back to the days of Marco Polo who has made a mention of these precious stones in his travel accounts. You will find that the rubies mined in Thailand finish a close second in the race for the top position. However, more or less the same quality of rubies can also be found in the countries like Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Africa. They are similar in the sense, that they possess similar chemical as well as physical properties. Then how are they distinguished from each other? It is their unique shades that make them distinguishable according to their places of origin. Let us examine the discernible qualities of some of the world famous varieties of rubies

Ruby Mines

There are some important mines in the world where rubies are found. In the western tip of North Carolina, in Macon County sits Franklin. You can access this place from anywhere and you have to pass the gorgeous scenery of Blue Ridge, waterfalls, streams flowing over rocks, the works. The 1870's saw the mining of the corundum in Macon County. The ruby belongs to the family of the corundum mineral which is a very hard mineral second only to the diamond. But this mining ended when synthetic corundum became a cheaper option.

The Sheffield Mines
The mines reopened when tourists showed an interest in looking for rubies themselves. This is how the Sheffield Mine became famous because every tourist went away with at least a small ruby or sapphire for their efforts. This mine sells native dirt and it is your luck if you do find a ruby or not. Unlike other mines, this mine does not enrich the dirt with purchased uncut gems. In the Sheffield mines has sapphires and rare star rubies and if you are lucky enough to find one you will see how a plain grey colored rock turns into a beautiful gemstone, untreated by humans and as natural as the dirt they come from.

The Burma MinesThe Burma mines are yet another source of fine rubies. Myanmar or Burma has a history of ruby mines as old as time. The mining area of Mogok has revealed mining tools that belong to the bronze as well as the Stone Age. The rubies found here are described as pigeon blood due to their pure red color. There is another variety of ruby produced here which is more of a pink red rather than blood red and they are simply gorgeous. These rubies have a strong fluorescence and you will see layers of extra color when exposed to ultraviolet rays like sunlight. These rubies hold their color under any kind of light and therein lies their reputation. The most recently discovered mining area in Burma is called Mong Hsu. This deposit is producing commercial quality of rubies in commercial quantities which includes a large amount of the fine Burma ruby and the sizes go up to a carat also. Trade and commerce in the little village in Tachilek has blossomed due to this ruby bonanza. The world's most important ruby trading center is Thailand. Mae Sai is a place very close to Tachilek and it is now populated by traders and cutters who send most of the finds to Thailand.

The Vietnam Ruby Mines1992 saw the discovery of a ruby mine in Vietnam. The quality of rubies produced here are similar to those of the Burma mines. Geologically speaking, the vein may be a continuation of the one in Burma.
Rubies found in other placesFine rubies that are found in Thailand have a slightly darker red tone which moves more towards burgundy than pink. There are a variety of Thai rubies that have a black reflection which are known as extinction which makes the red look darker than what it is. These give the Burmese rubies a run for their money. On the other hand Sri Lankan rubies are pinker in hue or even in pastel shades. Gem Mining in Sri Lanka is mainly from the secondary alluvial deposits found in the river gravels. Mining pits are hand dug to access the gravel. In the 1960's the world got a surprise when rubies and sapphires were discovered in Kenya and Tanzania and this was more so because their colors could rival with the best in the world. But sadly, the rubies found here were flawed with tiny inclusions which reduced their transparency greatly. On the other hand, rubies from the African mines have a superb color but they are not transparent enough to give facets. When cut cabochon style, the color is displayed to its best. On rare occasions, rubies from Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Pamir mountains find their way into the markets but mining here is very difficult due to the unfriendly terrain

GemStones > Ruby > Gemologists > Mines

The bible aptly describes the value of a Ruby in the saying "more precious than rubies". The ancient language of Sanskrit describes the Ruby as a "RatnaRaj" which translates as the King of precious stones. The word ruby comes from the Latin word "ruber". Today the ruby is valued far more than even the best in colorless diamonds. Ruby is a crystalline form of aluminum and it is one of the most durable of all minerals in existence. Of the mineral corundum, the ruby is the gem quality. Corundums are very hard and in its most common form it is used as an abrasive. The value of a ruby is determined by its color. We all know that red is an indicator for top quality gems. These will not have any brown or blue overtones. The ruby is a very intensely colored substance and at its best, the red looks like glowing coal. In ancient times, these perpetual fires that never extinguished themselves were thought to have magical powers. The value of a ruby is decided by three other factors viz. cut, size and clarity. Perfectly translucent rubies with no flaws visible to the naked eye are the most valuable. The cut of the ruby decides how lively and attractive the ruby looks. If light were reflected across the surface of the ruby evenly then that would indicate that it is a well cut stone. Large rubies are rare; hence the bigger your ruby, the more expensive it will be. Some rubies have a six point three ray star. These are star rubies and to display the effect they are cut in a smooth domed cabochon

Emeralds belong to the species Beryl

The property that distinguishes an Emerald from other Beryls is the characteristic deep green or bluish green color caused by the presence of chromium. All Beryls of other colors of gemstone quality are called precious beryl and not emeralds.

Blocking the Conflict Diamond in the Diamond Market

Combating Conflict Diamonds' campaign, commenced in the year 1998 uncovered the funding means of terror groups for their brutal activities. World was shocked to learn that the precious gemstone 'Diamond' they adore is used to create the violence in different parts of the world. Since then diamond sold by terrorists was named as 'Conflict Diamond'. People across the globe demanded the actions to block these diamonds entering the diamond market. As a result, in May 2000 diamond industry representatives, NGOs and United Nation Government officials met at Kimberley, South Africa to establish the method to eliminate the conflict diamond trade and assure the buyers that diamonds they are buying are conflict-free diamonds. This meeting was hosted by the South African government. In this meeting the method to control the conflict diamond sale was initiated. On January, 2001 the new organization, the World Diamond Council was formed. The new council drafted the process and essential documents that would certify the legitimate diamond. The litigious negotiations went on for more than two years between the council, government and NGOs to establish the Kimberley Certification Process, an international diamond certification scheme.

Black pearls, as the name suggests, are pearls that are naturally black in color. They are produced by a species of oysters that are found in the South Pacific Ocean. These black pearls are produced by the Pinctada Margaritifera pearl oyster, which is found in the French Polynesian Islands and Tahiti in the South Pacific Ocean. The Pinctada Margaritifera is a saltwater oyster that can grow to the size of a dinner plate. It secretes a black pigment that causes black pearls to form. The Pinctada Margaritifera pearl oyster is a mollusk that feeds on plankton. It is cultivated in the lagoons of French Polynesia. Tahiti cultured black pearls are formed inside the pearl oyster. They are among the highest paid workers in the world and are booked for years in advance. The pearl oyster is collected and a technician implants a nucleus and mantle in it.The nucleus is a small sphere of crushed Mississippi river mussel from Tennessee, which is specially bred for this purpose. The mantle is the part of the oyster tissue that forms the mother of pearl coating, which is called the nacre. The mantle creates a pouch around the nucleus.Over a period of about two years, it lays thousands of layers of nacre over it, forming a black pearl. The oyster shells have to be kept in a good condition so that they can withstand the trauma of the implant. This involves cleaning them regularly, to prevent barnacles and algae from building up. A lot of time and effort is required for maintaining the oyster shells in a good condition. Tahiti cultured pearls are produced from a grafting of the Pinctada Margaritifera pearl oyster. The nucleus or the seed can not be seen in these pearls and there is a continuous pearly layer over al least 80 % of the pearl's surface. Pearls from Tahiti come in a wide range shapes, sizes and colors. The colors range from black to silver. They are also found in shades of blue, pink and green. The cost of a Tahitian pearl may range from $ 10 to $ 10000, depending on the size and the quality.Pearls are graded according to their size, shape, color, surface characteristics and luster. Cracks, spots, bumps, ridges and pits on the surface can affect the price of the pearl.Pearls are found in several shapes, which include round and pear shaped pearls. Button pearls are flat on one side and round on the other and circled pearls have a ring. Baroque pearls are irregular in shape. The luster depends upon the reflection of light from the surface of the pearl. The color of the pearls can range from white to silver to black.Sometimes the pearl oyster rejects the nucleus but the donor mantle remains. This leads to the formation of a small irregular seedless pearl, which is called a Keshi pearl.Mabe (mar-bay) pearls are heart shaped, oval or tear-drop shaped pearls, which often display all the colors of the spectrum. They are formed by cutting the nucleus in half and attaching it inside the lip of the pearl oyster. They are also known as blister pearls and are ideal for making rings or pendants. The golden pearl (poe pipi) is very rare and is found in the Cook Islands. It is found in the shell of the Pinctada Maculata pearl oyster, in the lagoon of Penrhyn and is seldom more than 8 millimeters in diameter.History of the Tahiti black pearlsJean-Marie Dormand, a Frenchman is known as the father of cultured black pearl cultivation. Ono offered the black pearl inside the oyster to the beautiful princess of Bora Bora, as a symbol of his everlasting love. Even now, if you give someone a gift of black pearls, it is considered to be a symbol of eternal love. The black pearls of the South Pacific are now in fashion and a top class necklace made of black pearls can cost you as much as $ 50000. The cultured pearl industry of French Polynesia is second only to tourism as a source of livelihood. Several hundred cooperative and private pearl farms operate on 26 atolls and employ thousands of people.

What is black pearls? How black pearls formed?

They consist of organic substances and calcium carbonate in the form of aragonite. How black pearls are formed? The seeding of pearls is done by highly skilled technicians, most of whom are Japanese. GemStones Tanzanite

The Masai herdsmen are considered to be the first collectors of Tanzanite, the most newly evolved and popular gemstone in terms of beauty and rarity. This newly discovered gemstone came into the limelight way back in the year 1967 and ever since it has mesmerized the world with its beauty. It is considered as a birthstone for the month of December and is believed to have immense healing effects. In the Moh's scale Tanzanite has a hardness of 6.5 to 7. The gemstone Tanzanite ranges in blue, violet and lavender shades and is a form of the mineral Zoisite which is a calcium aluminium silicate. The colour of Zoisite ranges from shades of greyish brown to white. In its raw stage Tanzanite is usually found brownish and very rarely, blue, violet or deep brown irregular sized crystals, often with broken ends. However, on application of heat, the gemstone transforms into the hues of breathtaking violet-blue. One can apply heat to these crystals up to a range of 300-400 degrees Celsius. The heat changes the colour of these raw crystals to a deep violet-blue which is the most sought after colour for Tanzanite. The gemstones inherit the different shades of blue due to the presence of the mineral vanadium in it. If the Tanzanite is of superior quality the colour often ranges from blue to purple and further down to a reddish pink shade. The gemstone emanates different colours when viewed from different directions or one can say that the effect is different from the different angles. The hues are blue, violet or brown. The brown colour is more predominant when the gemstone is in its raw stage. Usually the gemstone has a dominance of the blue and lavender shades, though the stones which are more towards the blue shade are categorized under the higher price bracket especially in the Asian market. The breathtaking aura of blue with a tinge of purple radiates elegance and grandeur which fascinates the eye. The rich velvety shades of blue in a Tanzanite can be equated with the grace of a blue sapphire at any point of time. The cut of Tanzanite, as of any gemstone is also considered to be of great importance as the supreme quality of cut always emphasizes the true colour, lustre and brilliance of the gemstone in the best possible manner. Tanzanite is cut in different classical shapes starting from round to various other fancy cuts that emphasize the brilliance and colour of this amazing gemstone. However, it is experienced that Tanzanite can be at its best form in terms of colour and cut when it is anywhere above 10 carats. The lesser weighed Tanzanite usually has the paler shades of blue. A gemstone is always considered as a most prized possession for an individual and for a consumer owning a Tanzanite has always been a very special experience. It is not only for its beauty but also for its rare exclusivity that makes this gemstone so very special. After all, one should not forget that Tanzanite is many times rarer than diamonds. It is also the youngest member in the world of gemstones discovered in the 20th century and is available only in one particular area in the whole world that is Tanzania

Fracture Filling Leftover Marks

While filling the cracks with the glass-like solution there are some air bubbles that get trapped because glass is transparent. These bubbles are either seen individually or it gets grouped near by one another creating the cloud image. This is the most common left over sign of fracture filling clarity enhancement treatment. Secondly there are some flow lines within the glass. These lines are also called as flashes as they produce flash effects. These are referred to as such because the lines contain some light colours and it creates the effect when the gemstone is rotated. The colour varies from yellow, orange to electric blue or purple. The colour depends on the lighting conditions. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) suggests to look in for the unfilled cracks on the gemstone's surface from the perpendicular angle to the fracture's plane while the cracks filled after the enhancement process are more clearly visible when viewed from the parallel perspective to the filled fracture's plane. This treatment is only recommended for stones of higher carat weight as the glass filling lasts longer. The small gemstone may not have fruitful results of this treatment. The clarity enhancement processes might be picking up with the passage of time but are not completely certified from GIA. The Diamonds that under go any of these two treatments are referred as "clarity enhanced Diamonds" or "fracture filled Diamonds". The price of these enhanced stones is much less than the natural untreated diamonds. Among the two processes the laser drilled gems are priced higher than the fracture filled diamonds as first treatment is permanent and second is temporary. The acceptance of the diamonds that undergo these treatments is growing but problem creeps in when untruthful jewelers sell these clarity enhanced gemstone at the price of original diamonds to the innocent buyers. It is buyer's duty to be careful while buying but jewelers must also maintain some ethics. The buyer should be informed which treatment has been used for the clarity enhancement of the gem and must be asked for the appropriate price. The market is full of numerous attractive diamonds. Depending upon one's pocket the decision could be taken whether to go in for the natural flawless diamond, gemstone with natural flaws or stones with enhanced clarity. It all comes with a price difference. The gem that has been processed to remove the flaws certainly looks of higher quality unless it is seen under magnifying loupe. Once it is mounted in the jewelry it is hard to tell the difference with the naked eyes. It can be a good option if it is priced accordingly and the jeweler is truthful and reputable. Enhanced or natural, a diamond is precious and to own it gives one great satisfaction and happiness.

Laser Drilling Leftover Marks

The holes made in the stone are so small that it has to be seen only through jeweler's microscopic loupe. One can spot these holes as very small white dots on the gemstone's surface.

Advantages of Laser Drilling
This method is widely used because it is permanent. The inclusions are removed forever and the durability and sturdiness of Diamond is maintained. The final look with respect to cut and shape does not change.

Fracture Filling
This treatment was also developed during the same time as Laser Drilling. It is used for filling the crack with the transparent glass-like solution. The solution used for concealing the flaws of the gemstone has a very low melting point and refractive index equal to that of diamond. The cracks do exist after the filling but due to the outer optical coating it becomes imperceptible to the normal glance. However, it can be easily noticed under the magnification. Unfortunately this method is not permanent. The specially formulated glass filling can be eroded when the gemstone comes into direct contact with the hot sun. The ultraviolet rays emitted from the sunlight are powerful enough to eat away the filling. Even at the time of routine repairs the heat produced can also lead to glass filling worn out of the gem. The slight heat produced from the jeweler's torch can also melt the filling. Also, cleaning of jewelry having the fracture filled might give the similar results. The glass filling melts at very low temperature.

Laser Drilling

This enhancement treatment technique has been found way back in 1980. Since then it has been successfully used for enhancing the clarity of diamonds. In this method, first a coating of amorphous carbon or any other energy-absorbent matter is applied on the stone's surface. This is done because a diamond is transparent and with the help of this coating the laser beam passes through the stone easily. After the coating is applied, infrared laser having the wavelength of about 1060nm is inserted to drill tiny holes inside the gemstone. The size of these holes could be between 0.005-0.2 millimeters. The laser beam in these holes reaches the inclusion and burns it. The gemstone then is immersed in chemical solution to dissolve the flaws. The solution could be sulfuric acid or iron oxide. Once the imperfections are removed the holes are re-filled with the clear solution that makes the visibility of holes almost negligible.

Diamond Clarity Enhancement Treatments

Diamond clarity refers to the degree of transparency in the gemstone. If the number of flaws is less it indicates higher clarity and vice versa. Gems with more than 80% clarity are very rare in nature. Today, with new modern techniques it is possible to remove or reduce flaws and boost the clarity of natural diamonds. Mechanical treatments are widely used to enhance diamond clarity by removing the unwanted external and internal flaws from the stone.

How to Get Top Dollar When Selling Your Gold

In order to sell your gold for top dollar, you will need to take two important steps. First, get an inventory of the type of gold and jewelry you have to sell, and then second search for a reputable gold buyer that will treat you fairly and pay you top dollar for your gold.
Before selling your gold you must be able to first ascertain what gold you already have, and then determine the best way to sell it. Many people have pieces of gold jewelry around the house that have the potential to be easily transformed into cash, but people may not know what they have, what items can be sold, and how much they can get for these items. Nearly any item that has gold in it can be sold to a gold buyer. These items include rings, necklaces, key chains, earrings, money clips, cufflinks, and dental gold just to name a few.
Gold varies in value based on the percentage of gold in the piece and can vary from 8K up to 24K with different percentages in between. The important thing to know is that the higher the number, the higher the gold content and thus the higher the worth of the gold. Most jewelry pieces tend to be 10K or 14K, but even this can vary. Pieces should be stamped with their Karat or a number that corresponds to the percentage makeup of the gold. If an item is not marked, it can be tested to determine the amount of gold content.
Once the type of gold piece you own is ascertained, it is easy to know how much you can be paid for the piece by going to an online company that buys gold pieces. A reputable gold buying company will prominently post their payouts for the different gold karat levels as well as the total payout that can be expected (less vendor fees). All payouts and fees should be easy to understand and completely spelled out by the company. If not, beware!
Now that you know how to find out how much your piece is worth, it is important to shop around for a company that can be trusted and that will pay the most value for your gold pieces. There seems to be more and more internet gold buyers and many of these are not licensed nor offer guarantees or insurance of the transaction or the gold itself. It is important to look for these things when looking for a good way to sell your gold. One such company that has been family owned with experience in the jewelry industry for 75 years is www.gold-cash.com. Their website offers a wealth of information on the gold selling and buying process along with step-by-step ways to easily sell your gold pieces. Diamond Rings - How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Ring

Planning a wedding is an exciting time for couples. There's choosing the dress, deciding where to have the ceremony and reception, and choosing the perfect wedding bands. The wedding bands are lifelong symbols of a couple's love and devotion so it's a good idea to make sure you know what to look for before shopping. Knowing your options will make it easier to find perfect diamond wedding rings, no matter what you're looking for.
Metal Choices
Platinum is one of the most popular metal choices for all jewelry, including diamond rings. But, this isn't the only metal couples can choose from. Other popular metals include palladium and 14K or 18K white or yellow gold.
Because men are typically rougher on their jewelry, many men's wedding bands are available in stronger materials. Some of these materials include stainless steel and tungsten. If you're someone who works with your hands often, it may be a good idea to consider one of these sturdier materials.
Special Finishes And Fits
Wedding bands are the pieces of jewelry worn most often so it's important to find one that is comfortable. This is especially important for men, since most men aren't used to wearing jewelry. Luckily, many jewelers offer comfort fit wedding bands. These bands have special rounded inside edges so they're more comfortable and easy to get used to wearing. After wearing one for a couple of weeks, you'll forget you have it on and it will even feel strange when you take it off.
Couples can choose from a variety of finishes, depending on personal style and taste. Some of the most popular finishes are hammered, satin, and Florentine.
A hammered finish is one that looks like it has been pounded on with a hammer. The finish is textured and multifaceted. The look is unique and was once considered one of a kind, though these days most hammering is now done by a machine.
A satin finish is a semi-glossy finish. This is achieved when the jewelry is scored with tiny, shallow parallel lines on the metal. This reduces the metal's natural shine and gives it a beautiful semi-glossy finish somewhere between a matte and shiny surface.
A Florentine finish is achieved by intersecting sets of parallel lines scratched into the metal. This creates a textured surface with deeper cuts than in a satin finish.
Matching An Engagement Ring
Many couples choose to match diamond wedding rings to the bride's engagement ring. The engagement ring is usually the first piece of wedding jewelry a couple purchases and many diamond rings have coordinating wedding bands to make it easy to match.
Couples can match these jewelry pieces in a variety of ways. They can choose to match just the bride's diamond rings since those two are usually worn together or they can match the bride's diamond rings with the groom's band. If the wedding bands have diamonds, they can match the cut of the diamond in the engagement ring to the cut of diamond wedding rings. Or they can just choose to coordinate the metals of the engagement ring and the two diamond wedding rings. There are no rules, couples should only worry about choosing a set they love.
Some actually come sold as a set with all three pieces to make it easy to find matching pieces. Others allow the couple to purchase each piece separately, so that they can be sure to find exactly what they're looking for. Buying coordinating pieces separately means the couple can actually choose certified loose diamonds and their own setting of engagement ring if they want to.
Choosing A Special Inscription
Inscribing your diamond wedding rings with a special saying or expression is a perfect way to personalize your love. Couples may choose to inscribe their wedding bands with something as simple as the date of their wedding or their initials. Still others choose to inscribe a meaningful phrase or split up the phrase between the two wedding bands. No matter what you choose, make sure to take your jewelry to an experienced engraver - you don't want to trust just anyone with your jewelry.
Diamond wedding rings used to be reserved for a special anniversary or an upgrade for an older wedding set. More and more couples are choosing to add diamonds to their wedding rings initially instead of replacing a plain band later on. If you do choose a band with diamonds, decide on your metal and finish, if you want to match the bride's engagement ring, and then if you want to engrave the inside with a special message. Once you know what you're looking for, choosing your wedding bands will be fun and easy!

Cubic Zirconia Jewelry For Your Wedding

If you're getting married anytime soon, you may consider substituting regular diamond jewelry for cubic zirconia jewelry on this special one time occasion as the perfect substitute. The naked eye can't even tell the difference between cubic zirconia and genuine diamonds. Why? Simply because CZ stones have the look, beauty, and brilliance that real diamonds do. Except there is one difference I'd like to point out: the price tag! The features and benefits of cubic zirconia jewelry are endless, but the biggest one just maybe the price tag is a fraction of what diamonds cost.
If you've never felt an actual CZ stone, you should know that it is extremely tough and rock solid - just like a diamond. In addition, the brilliance and stone clarity are of the highest and flawless quality available in the jewelry market. Don't take my word for it, go to your local jewelry store and take a look at their selection of diamonds. You'll soon find that a handful of the diamond stones have many issues and aren't exactly perfect. This results in a cloudy and expensive diamond you don't want to be caught wearing!
You won't have to worry about any of the above if you go with cubic zirconia jewelry. Additionally, CZ is perfect for any occasion. Whether it's a night out on the town with that special someone, lunch with a close girlfriend, or even an evening basketball game. You won't have to pay the high price or worry about getting scratches on your jewelry. There are so many looks, styles, and fashions to choose from that you are sure to find something for your unique taste on the special day!
Now I've pointed out many benefits about choosing cubic zirconia jewelry over diamond jewelry, but I've definitely saved the greatest feature for last. That feature being, everybody at the wedding can have some synergy by matching looks! You could never afford to do the same with diamond jewelry, let alone find all of the similar looks, styles, and fashions all in one design. It would simply be impossible. But with CZ jewelry, you can find similar rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, pendants, and much more all at low prices to have that perfect look for everyone at the wedding. In conclusion, go with CZ jewelry for that special day and you won't regret it!

3 Big Reasons Why Silver Jewelry is Better Than Gold Jewelry

Affordability
The most obvious fact as to why silver is better to buy than gold is affordability. Sterling silver is more inexpensive than gold primarily due to issues of quality and abundance. Gold is rarer in the ground than its counterpart. Although both metals have similar melting points and are considered precious metals, gold is heavier and doesn't tarnish. Silver tarnishes only slightly and has proven durability as silver coins in relatively good condition, dating back to the Roman Empire some two thousand years ago, have been discovered. Affordability also gives silver an advantage in variety of design. Vermeil jewelry also known as yellow gold plated silver jewelry in the form or rings, earrings and bracelets are a great alternative to gold. In this case, you can have a gold look and pay silver prices while not losing on quality. Given the range of affordability, as a collector, buying jewelry made with silver gives you the ability to own multiple silver pieces for the price of one gold piece.
Popular Variety
The popularity of silver material in applications outside of jewelry is growing. Sterling silver is used for silverware, appliances, jewelry, furniture and plenty of other industrial artifacts. Sterling silver jewelry, such as rings, earrings, and bracelets have become more popular than gold because of a growing understanding of the practical value of silver in commercial industry as well as jewelry fashion. The use of combinations of silver and gold in earrings, rings and bracelets is now commonplace. As the popularity of silver jewelry increases so to will the breadth of choices widen. More jewelry designers are offering a variety of high product lines made in silver. Companies like Tiffany and Co. continue to grow as silver jewelry gains interest. This large focus on silver jewelry will continue to increase popularity which in turn will spawn varied and exciting jewelry expression, benefiting the buying public.
Value
Silver can be a smart investment. Given historical prices and high demand, the value of silver will likely continue rising. As more industries find uses for silver, it will attract investment dollars as consolidation occurs and stability is established. As a wearer and owner of silver jewelry you can rest assured that your piece has intrinsic value as a precious metal in a commodities market. Recent history shows that silver has outperformed gold in many instances. Since 2000 silver prices tripled. Given the low price of silver as it relates to gold, there is a tremendous upside potential still yet unrealized. Here is, in conclusion, yet another benefit to owning silver as the mere buying of jewelry is considered a method of investing in commodities

How to Distinguish Real Pearls From Faux Pearls?

Pearls have always been one of the most popular choices as wedding jewellery. It is also a great choice of gift for your loved ones. If you are planning on purchasing pearl jewellery but have little idea on the subject, the article might be useful to you.
A real pearl means a pearl that has either been naturally formed or cultured through human intervention within an oyster shell. Those formed naturally are called 'sea pearls' or 'natural pearls', whereas those formed through manually placing a mother of pearl in the oyster shells are referred to as 'freshwater pearls' or 'cultured pearls'. Both natural pearls and cultured pearls are regarded as 'real pearls'. A faux pearl is generally understood to be any sort of pearl that is made of something other than true nacre, be it plastic, glass, or resin.
It is relatively easy to distinguish real pearls from faux pearls. Real pearls are generally heavier than faux pearls. They are cold to the touch and quickly adapt to the body's temperature when you wear them - this is a similar quality in all natural gemstones.
Rub a pearl against your teeth - a real one gives a rough feeling whereas a faux pearl feels smooth. If you have a strand of pearls instead of a pendant, you may also rub two of them against each other with a little force. Look carefully: on real pearls a trace of powder will appear on the surface. Wipe away the powder and the lustre is back to exactly the same as before. Faux pearls will feel completely smooth and will not create any trace of powder; and if you rub them too hard, the surface will be damaged and cannot be restored (so don't do it if you want to keep them!).
Faux pearls are usually completely regular and uniform in colour. Real pearls are always somewhat irregular: even high quality real pearls that look perfectly round and very smooth in lustre are not 100% immaculate if you examine them carefully enough - as these are creations of nature. Nowadays some faux pearls are also made to be irregular in order to seem more like real pearls, but they are still distinguishable through touching and rubbing

Selling Gold - How Much Do You Get For Selling Gold? - The Truth May Surprise You

If you're thinking about selling gold, knowing how much you stand to receive is the most important question. Let's say you bought a gold bracelet for $200, when selling gold, don't expect to receive the full amount you paid.
Jewelry has a high mark-up when it is sold to cover the costs of production, overhead and to make a profit. Gold buyers must also pay to have their gold refined which means less payout to the one selling gold. If you sold a bracelet that you paid $200 for, you could expect to receive about $50 to $100 in return. Depending on your situation that's still a nice amount of money.
Selling Gold: Find A Buyer
Now that you're ready to start selling gold your next step is to find a buyer. Some buyer will give you an appraisal before you send in your gold. It's also a good idea to take some clear photographs of everything you intend to sell.
Using the internet and find gold buyers is really very easy. Just remember to find out how much they pay for a pennyweight (dwt). If they will not provide you with this information then do not send your gold to that company. Another alternative is to get an official appraisal from a jeweler or a qualified individual. This will give you a fair idea of what you should expect to receive.
The Price Of Gold
Another tip to selling gold is to be sure to keep an eye on the price of gold. The prices fluctuate daily, and gold isn't immune to occasionally drastic changes. Gold buyers may be aware of sudden price changes, and they may use that information to get a quick profit from you. You wouldn't want to get taken advantage of.
Again, photographing your gold is important because you may choose to have your pieces returned and they could come back missing or broken. Photocopy any certificates and paperwork that can be used to authenticate or identify your gold pieces. Also make sure to insure your package when you mail it. You can use the tracking feature of most shipping companies to monitor the progress of your order.
Now What?
Selling gold is easy and, honestly, somewhat fun. It's profitable too. Now that you've researched some buyers, it's time put together a deal, complete the transaction and reap the rewards. How else can you make hundreds of dollars simply by clearing out trinkets from the back of the closet? Selling gold is a great way to generate some instant cash

Diamond Rings - Popular Trends in Diamond Engagement Rings

Traditionally, men have purchased diamond engagement rings as a symbol of lifetime love and devotion, but many men admit they need a little help when it's time to choose one. If you've decided it's time to ask your loved one to marry you, here are some of the latest trends. With so many to choose from, you'll be sure to find something that you'll both love looking at every day for the rest of your lives.
Choosing Alternative Metals Such As Palladium Or White Or Yellow Gold
One of the most popular metals for jewelry is platinum. It is one of the most durable metals and is extremely resistant to tarnish. However, platinum's rarity does make it more expensive so it can be a little hard on the wallet.
Other popular metals are palladium and 18K white and yellow gold. Palladium looks like platinum, but is typically much less expensive and lighter. This makes palladium ideal for more delicate pieces of jewelry or for women with small hands and fingers. Both yellow and white gold are also gaining popularity in the jewelry world. White gold can require a little bit of upkeep, as it tends to show wear easier than other metals. Having a white gold piece of jewelry redipped is relatively easy. If your white gold jewelry is starting to show signs of yellowing, simply take it to any jewelry store and ask them to redip it. The jeweler will redip it, shine it up, and your ring will look brand new. Some stores are able to do this while you wait, but others can take up to two weeks so make sure to ask if you're planning on having this done right before your wedding or other important event.
Popular Styles Of Diamond Engagement Rings
Diamond rings come in styles to fit everyone's taste. Some of the most popular ones are antique or vintage, halo, classic comfort fit solitaires, and three diamond rings.
An antique or vintage ring is one that was previously worn by someone else. They can be found at antique or estate sales, purchased from an antique dealer or given you to by an older loved one. If you're uncomfortable with the thought of a previously worn ring, but want something with a vintage feel, you can find a custom jewelry designer to design you a new piece with an antique look.
A halo ring is one with a larger center diamond that is surrounded by smaller diamonds. These diamond engagement rings typically have a round center stone, but the center stone can also be heart, marquise, princess, cushion, pear, asscher, or oval. The outside stones can be bevel or prong set.
One of the most popular styles of diamond ring is the classic comfort fit solitaire. These diamond engagement rings can be set on a wide or thin band and have a single stone set directly in the middle of the band. The stones can be any shape, though the round brilliant and princess cut are the most common. Other cuts can include heart shaped, oval, asscher, pear, cushion, marquise, trilliant, or radiant.
Three diamond rings have become popular in the past few years as the three stones represent a relationship's past, present, and future. The styles of these pieces vary greatly. They can have large center stones with smaller outside stones or have three stones all the same size. The stones can all be the same cut, but other popular styles are ones with a round or princess cut center stone and triangle or baguette shaped outer stones.
Spending More On Center Stones
Some shoppers choose a ready to fill setting and spend more on a center stone. Doing this ensures you'll be able to purchase a certified diamond that you choose. A certified diamond has already been graded by experts at one of the diamond grading laboratories so you'll know exactly what you're purchasing. Most Americans are familiar with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), but other labs include the American Gem Society, Hoge Raad voor Diamant, the European Gemological Laboratory and the International Gemological Institute. One lab isn't more qualified than another - all must follow the same strict grading standards.
Buying a certified diamond also makes it easier to insure your jewelry, something that's important in case it is ever lost or stolen. If the diamond is already certified, you can just take in the paperwork and the jeweler likely won't need to appraise it.
Custom Diamond Engagement Rings
Another popular style of diamond engagement rings are custom ones. These are completely custom designed and the buyer chooses a custom setting and then a center stone to go in it. A custom designed, one of a kind ring is a great way to symbolize your one of a kind love.
Diamond rings are a symbol of your love, so you'll want to do a little research before spending money on one. Whether you're looking for a vintage, antique, halo, solitaire, or three stone in platinum, palladium, white gold, or yellow gold, you'll be sure to find one your bride will love.
